PROJECT DESCRIPTION
New homeowners needed to remove a 100 year old pin oak growing too close to their house, so they selected several pieces from our furniture collection and custom gallery and tasked us to transform their tree into the wood to fabricate them. We had their logs milled and the wood kiln dried, then created a suite of bedroom furniture, shelving, stools and a coffee table using every last inch of the wood that the tree had to offer. The "blue stain" visible at the end of the log was indicative of metal in the tree and the captured history made for unique coloration in the wood surfaces.
When the health of a second large oak in their yard declined to the point of requiring removal, they reached out again. This swamp oak, in the white oak family, became a cafe table, a cusotm desk, two outdoor benches, an easel and two stepstools.
