PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Work In Progress: To build a new home on a Rhinebeck property, dozens of trees were cleared, most of which were standing dead ash that had succumbed to the emerald ash borer. The architect, Studio VRS, contacted us as her clients were enamored with the unique patterns the beetles left under the bark, and wanted a bar and other possible pieces created from a 16'L hefty spalted maple log.
We contracted a portable mill and, with the client, had a fantasic day of milling. The maple was sent immediately to a special kiln that we use, the ash lumber stacked for a subsequent load, and 3' diameter ash stumps cut for future coffee tables.
