On a warming planet, trees are one of our greatest allies - lowering temperatures, creating rain, taking up storm water, cleaning our air and sequestering carbon. As the number of trees lost to severe weather events, insects and diseases increases, so does the need to conserve healthy ones. One way to do this is by radically shifting in how wood is sourced and how wood products are made.

We address this challenge by stewarding fallen and distressed trees through the fabrication process, seeing that every step is done with integrity and as locally as possible. We collaborate with our clients to design custom furniture and surfaces; work with arborists to have logs cut to the needed lengths; advise sawyers so that the logs are milled to spec; contract specialty kilns to dry the wood in a period of weeks; fabricate each piece with care; and then return the finished goods to the property where the trees once stood. Participating in the the transformation of their trees, our clients gain a new awareness of the design and nature around them. They have beautiful lasting pieces, stories and memories to carry forward. When wood is rooted in place, especially when it’s from a tree that has personal meaning, design has the capacity to inspire, bring joy, and give back to the natural world. And this awareness has value greater than anything we could ever make.
